27.02.2025

Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov updated the ambassadors of the EU member states on his government’s priorities. The meeting was hosted by Polish Ambassador Maciej Szymański whose country holds the presidency of the Council of the EU in the first six months of the year. In the course of the discussion, the Prime Minister noted that his cabinet is committed to Bulgaria’s being a constructive, reliable and predictable partner in the region, in the EU and in NATO. Rossen Jeliazkov underscored the government’s effort to draw up a balanced national budget and to ensure stable public finances. Institutions continue their action in the process of Bulgaria’s accession to the Eurozone.

Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov emphasized Bulgaria’s consistent support for Ukraine as he addressed the ambassadors of the EU member states. Bulgaria will continue to support Kyiv, Mr. Jeliazkov said. The Prime Minister was firm that it is a must for the EU to be present at the table when the future of Ukraine is discussed as this directly has a bearing on Europe’s security and on the system of the European security architecture. In his view, the guiding principle should continue to uphold that no initiative concerning Ukraine could be launched if Ukraine itself is not involved in the negotiations.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov recalled that the Bulgarian government strongly condemns the vandalism committed against the building where the offices of the European Parliament and of the European Commission are in Sofia. The Prime Minister pointed out that assaults on institutions, whether national or European, are inexcusable and disagree with the principles of the rule of law.
