Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov and Minister of Foreign Affairs Georg Georgiev congratulated Nickolay Mladenov on his appointment as the High Representative for Gaza. The three men met in Davos prior to the establishment of the Board of Peace. “The appointment of Nickolay Mladenov to serve in this responsible position is a tremendous recognition of his long-standing work dedicated to the achievement of peace and stability in the Middle East region. I am confident that Nickolay will dedicate his energy and effort to accomplish this highly responsible mission which receives the support of US President Donald Trump, among others”, Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov said.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Georg Georgiev emphasized that Nickolay Mladenov’s appointment to serve as the High Representative is likewise a recognition of the opportunities for Bulgaria to contribute to the Middle East peace process. “Bulgaria’s moderate and balanced foreign policy stance has always enabled us to play a constructive role in finding workable solutions to promote peace and stability in a region that is near to Bulgaria and whose stability is crucial for the prevention of negative consequences for the security of our region and the whole of Europe, including new waves of migration,” Bulgaria’s top-level diplomat said.
In the course of the discussion, Nickolay Mladenov assured Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov that the Board of Peace initiative is in line with UN Security Council Resolution 2803 (2025) that advances a plan for the post-conflict government, security and redevelopment of Gaza and with President Trump’s 20-point Gaza peace plan. Nickolay Mladenov emphasized that the Charter of the Board of Peace provides for voluntary fundings from the member states and that each member state is free to opt out of financial commitment.
