With the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, we reiterated the mutual trust that the new Bulgarian government and the new Commission share in their common European development path and our commitments as a proud and worthy member of the European Union. This was stated by Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov after his meeting in Strasbourg with the Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

They discussed key European issues related to competitiveness and some challenges to its development such as excessive regulation, bureaucracy burden and some policies that need reconsideration. Security, in particular energy security, the cohesion policy and investment to improve industrialization were likewise focuses of the meeting between Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov and the President of the European Commission.

“Targeted investment under the Recovery and Resilience Plan is extremely important for Bulgaria,” Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov said. He emphasized the reforms required and the need to meet some political challenges related thereto. “It is better for competition and cooperation to go hand in hand. Therefore, we will try to find a way to the coalition partners to settle some political differences concerning the reforms under the Recovery and Resilience Plan,” Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov said further. Also, he emphasized that this is money intended for Bulgaria and whatever is needed must be done so that our country gets it.
