Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov: To strengthen the Euro Mechanism so as to further encourage the public awareness campaign about the adoption of the single European currency

30.12.2025

We strengthen the Euro Mechanism with a Coordination Center in order to promote communication with citizens and businesses in view of the adoption of the single European currency on 1 January 2026. The objective is to achieve the best possible coordination of institutions at the central, regional and municipal levels. This was stated by Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov at the opening of the cabinet’s sitting today. The role of the Coordination Center will be particularly important in the coming months when there may be challenges to the transition from Lev to Euro. We count on the citizens and businesses, on their tolerance and understanding that the adoption of the Euro will have a long-term positive impact on the Bulgarian economy and on the change of the setting in which the country develops, Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov emphasized.

Following a decision of the cabinet, a Coordination Center was established today; the Center will be headed by Vladimir Ivanov, Chairman of the State Commission for Commodity Exchanges and Markets. Members of the Center will be Deputy Ministers of the Interior, Transport and Communications and Finance; the heads of the State Agency for National Security (SANS), the Commission for Consumer Protection (CCP), the National Revenue Agency (NRA), the Customs Agency, the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA); and the Regional Governors.

Regional Coordination Centers are to be set up under the Regional Governors to address issues of regional or local relevance related to the adoption of the Euro; the mayors of municipalities in the respective region will be members of such Coordination Centers.
