Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov: Guarantees to be given to Ukraine for lasting and just peace

24.02.2025

Bulgaria’s support for Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity was reaffirmed today by Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov. He joined the summit initiated by Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to mark the third anniversary of the outbreak of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine. At the forum that was attended by the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the European Council António Costa and leaders from Europe and the world, Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov underscored that ever since the outbreak of the war, Bulgaria has been providing military, financial, political and humanitarian assistance to Kyiv, as part of the international support efforts. “As a member of the EU and of NATO, we reiterate our commitment to further support for Ukraine,” Mr. Jeliazkov stated and pointed out that Kyiv’s future is with the European family and the transatlantic community.

Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov was firm that there should not be any talks about peace in Ukraine from which Ukraine and the European Union are excluded. In his words, Kyiv should be given reliable and stable security guarantees, which are indispensable for any full, just and lasting peace on the European continent. “We must continue our complete support for Ukraine. The ‘achievement of peace by building strength’ is the strategy to put Ukraine in the strongest possible position before peace negotiations,” Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov said further. The Prime Minister stressed the shocking toll of human lives that the war had taken and described Russia’s aggression against Ukraine as a direct encroachment upon peace and stability in Europe and the world, upon the UN Charter and upon the principles of international law.
