Bulgaria welcomes the UN-80 initiative as a step towards a stronger organization and supports the priorities related to reforms that guarantee the Organization’s goals of peace and security, sustainable development and protection of human rights. This was stated by Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov at his meeting with the UN Secretary-General António Guterres. They talked within the framework of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly in New York. We expressed our concerns about the ongoing global tensions that keep individual countries away from the achievement of exactly these goals, but also, we expressed optimism that there exist plenty of opportunities, afforded, inter alia, by science and technology, to achieve these goals, Mr. Jeliazkov said further.
For his part, the UN Secretary-General António Guterres thanked for the support for the reforms and congratulated Bulgaria on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the country’s membership in the United Nations Organization. Bulgaria’s role in the European context, as a country in the Black Sea region and the challenges arising therefrom were likewise on the agenda of the Jeliazkov-Guterres discussion.
During the meeting Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov introduced the new Permanent Representative of Bulgaria, Mrs. Guergana Karadjova, who will join this year as the head of the Permanent Mission of Bulgaria in New York.
