Bulgaria will support the efforts of all countries that they be judged on the basis of their own merits and found to qualify for EU membership. This was stated by Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov to journalists in Podgorica after his call on the President of Montenegro Jakov Milatović. Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov reassured of Bulgaria’s support for Montenegro’s European course and welcomed the ambitious program of the country to that effect. The negotiation chapters have been opened and the negotiation process is very intensive. Some problems regarding our Balkan agenda must be solved – bilateral matters, and of course, advocacy must be exercised before countries of the European Union, which to some extent, as our history likewise shows, are sceptic about any forms of accession to the Union, Mr. Jeliazkov said further. The Prime Minister recalled that for years Bulgaria suffered from the fact that it met the Schengen requirements but the process was put off.
Concerning domestic policy matters, asked by media about what President Rumen Radev said on 6 September which is a feast day in Bulgaria, Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov stated that the Reunification is a day when the entire nation should be addressed, even those who don’t like each other. It is a day of unity when the nation has to celebrate that it found the strength to be united not only territorially but also spiritually, Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov said firmly.
