“Bulgaria is a strategic destination for high-tech investment in energy and Artificial Intelligence,” said Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov at his meeting with Meta Platforms Chief Global Affairs Officer Joel Kaplan. Latest developments show the company’s growing interest in the country’s energy infrastructure and potential investment in Artificial Intelligence (AI) data centers. Bulgaria was represented by Zhecho Stankov, Minister of Energy, and Petyo Ivanov, Executive Director of the Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant – New Builds EAD.
Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov presented to Joel Kaplan Bulgaria’s competitive advantages and emphasized that the country possesses a unique combination of access to clean energy, highly competent ICT staff and a strategic geographical location. “The area around the Kozloduy NPP offers additional advantages – proximity to clean energy sources, excellent optical connectivity and the water resource of the river Danube for cooling purposes,” the Prime Minister noted.
Jeliazkov highlighted the opportunities for strategic technology partnerships with Meta. “Bulgaria hosts one of the six AI factories in the EU – BRAIN++, with an investment of Euro 90 million, in Sofia Tech Park, combined with INSAIT, which positions the country as a developing regional AI hub in Southeast Europe,” Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov said. He was firm that Bulgaria can cooperate with Meta in key areas – the development of Artificial Intelligence, energy infrastructure for data centers, and educational and research partnerships. With over 80,000 ICT specialists and a large number of graduates every year, Bulgaria offers skilled manpower for the company’s regional operations.
“This meeting strengthens our ambition for a long-term partnership that will support sustainable development, digital transformation and attraction of high-tech investment in Bulgaria,” Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov concluded.
