“Bulgaria has proved to be a reliable partner and a promising market. We are willing to build on cooperation with the German economy by real projects. I believe that the coming months will be a time of concrete actions,” said Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov at his meeting with members of the Eastern Committee of the German Economy (Ost-Ausschuss der Deutschen Wirtschaft).
In the course of the discussion Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov stressed that Germany is a leading trade and economic partner and one of the major investors in Bulgaria. Over the past decade, bilateral trade between the two countries has been steadily growing and to reach record levels. Over the past 30 years, trade had increased 16-fold and Bulgarian exports have increased 23-fold.
“Bulgaria values the long-standing partnership with the German economy. German companies are among the major investors and employers in Bulgaria. It is our strategic goal to expand such cooperation through trust, stability and predictability,” Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov said.
He stressed that in Q2 of 2025 German investment in Bulgaria amounted to EUR 4.129 billion. The largest investment flowed to the automotive industry, mechanical engineering, trade, electronics and electrical engineering sectors where a great number of German companies manufacture and export products with high added value.
Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov assured the members of German business that the Bulgarian cabinet is pursuing consistent policies to support businesses, transparency and a stable economic environment. “Bulgaria remains fully committed to the adoption of the Euro, and German support in this process is strategically important. The country’s full membership in Schengen and the accession to the Eurozone will facilitate trade relations and expand partnership between the business communities,” the Prime Minister said further.
Among the items on the agenda were the digitalization of enterprises, the improvement of competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), the alleviation of the administrative burden and the management of regional imbalances. Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov stressed that accession to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) continues to be a priority for the cabinet and that the competent institutions work actively on the accession reports.
The meeting was attended by Tomislav Donchev, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Innovation and Growth; Peter Dilov, Minister of Economy and Industry; and Martin Danovski, Deputy Minister of Innovation and Growth.
The Eastern Committee of the German Economy is the main regional initiative of German business for 29 countries from Central, Eastern and South-Eastern Europe, the South Caucasus and Central Asia.
