Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev meets UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin and BFU President Georgi Ivanov

Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev and Minister of Youth and Sports Georgi Glushkov had a meeting with the President of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) Aleksander Čeferin and with the President of the Bulgarian Football Union (BFU) Georgi Ivanov. Mr. Čeferin is visiting Bulgaria for the event “100 Years of Bulgarian Football” to be held today in Sofia.

 

“A century is a huge period of time over which the most popular sport in the world wrote its history in our country and we as Bulgarians can only take pride in it. Our football produced great players who left a deep imprint on the football map. Throughout all these decades Bulgaria scored major successes and wrote down its glorious football history,” Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev said.

 

The Prime Minister emphasized that Mr. Čeferin’s longtime presidency over football in Europe has proven to be extremely successful. “I wish you to be at the helm of UEFA for many more years ahead when you will conquer new peaks. Your visit is definitely also a proof of the respect that European football personified by UEFA, has for football in Bulgaria,” Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev noted.

 

For his part, the UEFA President expressed hope that Bulgarian football would win better results and that Bulgaria would boast further achievements. To that end, he emphasized that he would work intensively with the Bulgarian Football Union and that he hopes that soon there will be progress in the scoring of the Bulgarian club teams and of the national eleven.

 

Prime Minister Glavchev wished success to Georgi Ivanov, too and expressed his hope that Bulgarian football would have European management that would serve as an example and that would enable the most popular sport in Bulgaria to regain the high standard that all fans know and expect.
