Prime Minister Andrey Gurov and Mathias Cormann, Secretary-General of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), discussed Bulgaria’s progress towards accession to the OECD. They met in Paris where they attended the second Nuclear Energy Summit.
At the discussion, Prime Minister Andrey Gurov emphasized that Bulgaria’s OECD membership continues to be a strategic national priority. The Prime Minister stressed the government’s commitment to ensure continuity in policy and to contribute actively to the efforts to complete the technical phase of the accession process as soon as possible this year. The aim is that Bulgaria receives an official invitation to join the OECD by the end of 2026.
Prime Minister Andrey Gurov noted that the caretaker government is committed to work in close cooperation with the National Assembly to rail and finalize as many pieces of legislation as possible relating to the OECD recommendations in the period between this day and the upcoming parliamentary election in April.
The Prime Minister expressed gratitude to OECD Secretary-General Mathias Cormann for his personal support for Bulgaria’s accession. Andrey Gurov stressed that the country is willing to continue to work in close partnership with the OECD and expressed his expectation for support from the Secretariat for the successful completion of the outstanding reviews within the framework of the OECD committees.
