28.02.2026

There exists no direct military threat to the territory of Bulgaria. There exist no risks to the life, health and safety of the citizens in the country. The Ministry of Interior and the security agencies have taken the preventive measures needed to ensure public order and there is no reason for concern in the everyday life of the Bulgarian society at large. This was stated by Prime Minister Andrey Gurov after the conclusion of the Security Council that was held in the government headquarters to discuss the situation in the Middle East. The Prime Minister was firm that Bulgaria is not a party to the conflict and is not involved in any way in the ongoing military operation. The level of combat alert of Bulgaria’s Armed Forces has not moved, Andrey Gurov said further.

The Prime Minister pointed out that a crisis headquarters is now operating round the clock at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. All Bulgarian diplomatic missions in the region are in contact with the Bulgarian communities all the time. Specific evacuation plans have been discussed should a situation require such. We call on our fellow-countrymen in Iran and neighboring countries to follow strictly the instructions of the local authorities and of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Prime Minister said. Also, he noted that the risks of migratory pressure are analyzed. Our border services have intensified their vigilance to ensure the security of the national and the European Union’s borders. Government institutions work in full synergy, Andrey Gurov said further.

Defense Minister Atanas Zapryanov emphasized that there exists no direct threat to infrastructure. He reconfirmed that Bulgaria is not a party to the conflict. As we are not involved in this operation, I believe that it is not possible to be a target like a state that actively contributes to such an operation, Atanas Zapryanov said further. He stated that no request had been made to change the status of the aircraft at Sofia Airport and that the planes are intended for exercise.

Foreign Minister Nadezhda Neynsky emphasized the constant contact with the allies and with all our embassies and diplomatic missions in the region. We have detailed evacuation plans which were updated even before the outbreak of the conflict; we have information about the number of Bulgarian citizens in the region, Nadezhda Neynsky pointed out. Also, the Minister of Foreign Affairs noted that at present the embassies in Tehran, Tel Aviv and Beirut assess that there is no need to pull out the personnel while they are prepared to proceed. Nadezhda Neynsky said that in cases of need, the fastest and safest routes would be sought for the people who are in the region.
