Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov expressed gratitude to Oman for its decisive assistance in securing the release of the Bulgarian sailors from the Galaxy Leader vessel. This took place during his meeting with His Excellency Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Albusaidi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Sultanate of Oman, who is on an official visit to Bulgaria—the first in the history of bilateral relations. Jeliazkov highlighted the active and constructive role of Oman in resolving the humanitarian case. “Without Oman’s support, this issue could not have been resolved. Your country acted responsibly and decisively,” the Prime Minister stated.
During the meeting, both sides expressed their shared determination to build upon their cooperation and turn it into the foundation of a long-term strategic partnership between Bulgaria and the Sultanate of Oman.
Opportunities for joint work were discussed in areas such as economy, energy, tourism, innovation, renewable sources, digital transformation, and artificial intelligence. The upcoming signing of a Memorandum of Understanding in the energy sector was noted as an important step forward. Jeliazkov pointed out that Bulgaria is an attractive investment partner with a geostrategic location, a competitive tax environment, and access to the markets of the EU and Southeast Europe. Interest was also expressed in cooperation in the fields of security and the defense industry.
Particular attention was given to the forthcoming visit of the Minister of Economy of the Sultanate of Oman to Bulgaria, which is expected to strengthen trade and economic relations and create an opportunity to institutionalize cooperation through a joint mechanism for regular consultations.
Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov also expressed appreciation for Oman’s balanced and stabilizing role in the Middle East region, emphasizing the importance of diplomatic dialogue for sustainable peace and security. Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to active participation in the strategic dialogue between the EU and the Gulf Cooperation Council.
