The Bulgarian government’s priorities – the speedup of industrial growth, the promotion of innovation and the development of a high-tech economy in the context of European competitiveness – were the focus of the discussion between Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov and the President of the European Council António Costa in Stara Zagora.
Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov visited with President António Costa the Demonstration Center for Aquaponics at Trakia University in Stara Zagora. The Center is a unique educational, research and industrial project for organic farming on a field of 4,000 square meters. Mr. Jeliazkov and Mr. Costa saw on site the possibilities of the first project of such a scale in Eastern Europe and the potentials of aquaponics. The facility operates year-round and ensures organic produce and high efficiency.
Aquaponics combines fish farming and crop growing within a single aquatic ecosystem using a shared infrastructure. The optimal environmental parameters are maintained using a greenhouse structure and computer equipment, which controls with precision temperature and other key factors. The technology ensures maximum yields throughout the year regardless of the season and with the minimum water intake.
