Prime Minister Kiril Petkov had a video conferencing with the President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu. The Prime Minister reconfirmed Bulgaria’s support for Moldova’s European perspective to be declared at the forthcoming European Council meeting. He welcomed President Sandu’s strong commitment to lead Moldova along its European path and along the path of reforms.
The two leaders condemned Russia’s ongoing military aggression in Ukraine that forced millions of Ukrainians to flee their homes. The Prime Minister and the President discussed the effort of the governments of both countries to provide shelter and protection to the Ukrainian refugees.
Prime Minister Kiril Petkov expressed his high appreciation for the support of the Moldovan authorities in saving the national, cultural and language identity of the Bulgarian national minority in Moldova. On that point, he expressed his hope that the Taraclia District and the Taraclia University would be treated as a bridge to the cultural and spiritual closeness of the two peoples.
