A strategic transformation in the development of port infrastructure: this is how Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov described the large-scale project „REBIRTH28“ to build a new deep-water ship berth at the Bourgas-West Terminal. The Prime Minister attended the official ceremony to mark the successful completion of the project, which will help enhance the Bulgarian ports’ competitiveness. We make it possible for Bourgas-West to become a new container-shipping hub in the Black Sea, Rossen Jeliazkov said.
Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov pointed out that Bourgas is one of the cities where public-private partnership is visibly productive. As an example, he cited precisely „REBIRTH28“, which is the largest project in port infrastructure development in Bulgaria in the past twenty years. It is private investment that creates public infrastructure, which is and will remain in public state ownership, Rossen Jeliazkov noted. As he said, the project is significant also in the context of the development of multimodal transport.
Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov specially emphasized the benefits of the successful combination of European and private funding, as in the project in question, EUR 40 million of grant aid is under the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF). An additional investment is planned alongside for the logistic operation in the hub. If we talk about a Green Deal in Europe and its needed revision, this is the example for it is via competitiveness and shorter transit times that the goals will be actually achieved, and not through unnecessary administrative regulations, Rossen Jeliazkov noted.
After the ceremony in Bourgas, Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov took questions from the media regarding the equipment for the Belene Nuclear Power Plant and noted that a decision on that can be taken only by the National Assembly. Asked by the media about the early warning system, the Prime Minister said that the „BG-ALERT“ does forewarn about earthquakes. No system has the potential for that given the nature of an earthquake as a disaster.
